HR/NY offers a wide variety of opportunities for you to connect with the local HR community, through the offerings of our Committees and Special Interest Groups, or SIGs. Additionally, volunteering with our Committees and SIGs can enable you to gain new job skills not available in your current role. Help your association and your career by getting involved today!

Below is an introduction to each of HR/NY's Committees and SIGs, along with contact information to learn more. If you're feeling overwhelmed by all the offerings, don't! Try one or two, and build from there. Mix and match to find the right variety of activities to help you develop into the HR professional you want to be!

Learn and grow! The Career Planning and Professional Development SIG enhances the personal knowledge and skills of HR/NY members through various programs.

Certification

Got letters? The Certification committee acts as a liaison with SHRM and the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) for the PHR, SPHR, GPHR, PHR-CA, and SPHR-CA certification exams. The committee addresses member questions on obtaining and maintaining certification designations.

Compensation

Show me the money! The Comp SIG provides compensation and related HR information that offers practical assistance for ongoing activities and future programming and policy development. Meetings facilitated open discussion on current topics and issues relating to compensation and HR management.

Directors' Forums

The Directors' Forum is composed of 30 HR Vice Presidents and Directors who are the most senior HR person in their organization. The topics in the roundtable discussions vary depending upon what HR issues the group wants to discuss.

Gen XtraordinarY™

Gen XtraordinarY™, a special interest group that welcomes all generations. The SIG focuses on defying stereotypes in order to build relationships in a generationally diverse workforce. Group members provide resources and educational opportunities that focus on increasing communication, information sharing and the importance of networking between all generations.

HR-PRO

Help others! Volunteer your time and expertise to assist New York City social service agencies with their HR needs, in partnership with the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies (FPWA). For its efforts, the committee received in 2010 the FPWA Keystone Award for service to the NYC social services community, as well as a 2010 SHRM Pinnacle Award.

Managers' Forums

The Managers' Forum provides a platform for the exchange of information and ideas on current problems and developments facing HR professionals. At the group's discretion, the meeting format calls for either roundtable discussions of topics of mutual interest to the members or for guest speakers with specific HR expertise. The group is limited to 30 members.

Orientation

Welcome! The Orientation Committee is responsible for introducing new members to HR/NY and ensuring that new and current members are familiar with the benefits and services of the organization. HR/NY offers orientation sessions once a quarter after chapter breakfast meetings.

The Program Committee provides strategy, tools, and resources for program producers to help ensure world-class, diverse and cutting-edge programs, such as the HR Fundamentals Series, which provides a solid foundation of HR knowledge in five sessions throughout the year. The Speaker Select Series showcases senior-level HR professionals and thought leaders.

Public Relations / Social Media

Meet the press! The Public Relations Committee informs the Metro area business communities about the goals, activities, and contributions of our organization. The PR committee e-mails periodic news releases to select media and also maintains contact with other HR professional organizations.

Sherman Award

The University Relations Committee coordinates the annual awarding of the Sherman Award to a deserving student of HR Management. The award recognizes a student for their outstanding work with their local Student SHRM chapter. The winner receives a Scholarship of $1,000 along with a Certificate of Appreciation.

University Relations

Back to school! The University Relations Committee develops programs which foster mutually beneficial relationships between HR students, faculty, and professionals. The committee coordinates a mentoring program which matches students of Human Resources Management with HR professionals willing to volunteer a few hours a month to give these students guidance and work experience.
