The Committee develops programs which foster mutually beneficial relationships between HR students, faculty and professionals. The Chair of the University Relations Committee is responsible for being the liaison with the local college/university SHRM Student Chapters. This committee coordinates a mentoring program which matches students of Human Resources Management with HR professionals willing to volunteer but a few hours a month to give the student some guidance and work experience.
The Committee also coordinates the annual awarding of the Sherman Award. Each year HR/NY bestows the Sherman Award on a deserving student of HR Management. The award recognizes a student for their outstanding work with their local Student SHMR chapter. A Scholarship of $1,000 is awarded along with a Certificate of Appreciation.
